Google come good

A quick follow-up to my previous posts: It appears that Google have now enabled XMPP Federation in Google Talk. This instantly turns it from being yet-another-insular-IM-system into an open system that can talk with countless other Jabber servers around the world.

It may have taken them a little while, but it’s good to see that they’ve finally done the right thing. The world doesn’t need any more closed systems, even if they are based on open file formats.
